Def Leppard (o nome vem de Deaf Leopard, que em português significa Leopardo Surdo) é uma banda de rock formada na cidade de Sheffield, Inglaterra, em 1977. Fez parte da geração chamada NWOBHM, porém tem outros estilos, como hard rock. É considerada uma das bandas mais populares do mundo e já vendeu mais de 100 milhões de álbuns mundialmente.
O maior sucesso comercial da banda ocorreu entre o início dos anos 80 e o início dos anos 90. Seu álbum de 1981, High ‘n’ Dry , foi produzido por Robert John “Mutt” Lange, que os ajudou a começar a definir seu estilo, e a faixa de destaque do álbum “Bringin ‘On the Heartbreak” se tornou um dos primeiros vídeos de rock na MTV em 1982. O próximo álbum de estúdio da banda, Pyromania, foi lançado em janeiro de 1983, com “Photograph” e “Rock of Ages” como os singles principais. Nos EUA, Pyromania recebeu o certificado de diamante (10× platina), tornando Def Leppard entre os grupos musicais mais populares da época. Em 2003 foi incluido na lista dos 500 melhores álbuns de todos os tempos da Rolling Stone.
O quarto álbum do Def Leppard, Hysteria, lançado em 1987, liderou as paradas de álbuns do Reino Unido e dos EUA. A partir de 2009, ultrapassou o sucesso de Pyromania, tendo sido certificado 12× platina com mais de 12 milhões de vendas nos EUA e mais de 25 milhões de cópias em todo o mundo. O álbum gerou sete singles de sucesso, incluindo o número 1 da American Billboard Hot 100, “Love Bites”, ao lado de “Pour Some Sugar on Me”, “Hysteria”, “Armageddon It”, “Animal”, “Rocket” e “Women”. O próximo álbum de estúdio, Adrenalize (o primeiro após a morte do guitarrista Steve Clark), alcançou o primeiro lugar nas paradas britânicas e americanas em 1992, e continha vários sucessos, incluindo “Let’s Get Rocked” e “Have You Ever Someone So So Bad”. Seu álbum de 1993, Retro Active, continha o hit acústico “Two Steps Behind”. O álbum das melhores músicas da banda, Vault , lançado em 1995, trazia o sucesso britânico “When Love & Hate Collide”.
Como um dos artistas musicais que mais venderam no mundo, o Def Leppard já vendeu mais de 100 milhões de discos em todo o mundo, e tem dois álbuns com certificação de diamante da RIAA, Pyromania e Hysteria.
