Fates Warning é uma banda americana de metal progressivo, formada em 1982 pelo vocalista John Arch, os guitarristas Jim Matheos e Victor Arduini, o baixista Joe DiBiase e o baterista Steve Zimmerman em Hartford, Connecticut.
Pioneiro no movimento do metal progressivo, Fates Warning foi referido como um dos “Três Grandes” do gênero, junto com Queensrÿche e Dream Theatre; a saber, as bandas que são mais responsáveis pela criação, desenvolvimento e popularização do metal progressivo. Seu trabalho inicial, influenciado pela nova onda do heavy metal britânico, também foi importante no desenvolvimento do power metal americano. Fates Warning alcançou fama internacional na década de 1980 e passou por inúmeras mudanças na formação. De 1982 a 1996, e temporariamente em 2010, Matheos e DiBiase foram os únicos membros originais remanescentes da banda, sendo o primeiro o único membro constante.
A banda experimentou grande sucesso comercial americano com o lançamento de 1986 de seu terceiro álbum de estúdio, Awaken the Guardian, que alcançou a posição 191 na Billboard 200, e se tornou o primeiro álbum lançado pela Metal Blade a entrar nessa parada. Seus próximos três álbuns No Exit (1988), Perfect Symmetry (1989) e Parallels (1991) – também foram bem-sucedidos; os dois primeiros alcançaram o número 111 e o número 141 na Billboard 200, respectivamente. Em 2001, Fates Warning vendeu mais de um milhão de álbuns em todo o mundo. Seu décimo terceiro álbum de estúdio, Long Day Good Night, foi lançado em 6 de novembro de 2020.
