Rage é uma banda alemã de heavy metal formada em 1984 por Peter “Peavy” Wagner. Eles faziam parte da cena alemã de heavy/ speed/power metal que surgiu no início da década de 1980, junto com bandas como Helloween, Running Wild, Blind Guardian e Grave Digger.
O Rage foi formado em 1984 com o nome de Avenger. Depois de lançar seu primeiro álbum Prayers of Steel e seu o EP Depraved to Black em 1985, a banda mudou seu nome para Rage porque havia outra banda na Inglaterra que compartilhava o mesmo nome. Originalmente, o novo nome era Furious Rage, mas acabou sendo encurtado para Rage.
Treze músicos fizeram parte do Rage ao longo dos anos, com a formação de maior sucesso sendo do período agora conhecido como os anos Refuge; esta formação contou com Manni Schmidt e Chris Efthimiadis. A segunda formação notável foi formada com Mike Terrana e Victor Smolski.
Ao longo dos anos, Rage se estabeleceu como uma banda de sucesso notável e como pioneiros da cena do power metal, incluindo em sua música elementos de metal progressivo e música clássica. Em 1996, Rage foi a primeira banda de metal a escrever e gravar um álbum com uma orquestra sinfônica completa: Lingua Mortis.
Rage lançou 25 álbuns (contando os lançamentos “Avenger” e “LMO”) nos últimos 30 anos (no total, mais de 50 lançamentos incluindo DVDs, EPs, edições do Japão e VHS. Um notável sucesso internacional com mais de cinco milhões de discos vendidos, Rage teve mais de 40 entradas nas paradas musicais.
