The Cure é uma banda inglesa de rock formada em 1976 em Crawley, Inglaterra. Robert Smith é o líder da banda e único elemento constante desde a sua formação, sendo o principal responsável pela sua direção musical, assumindo o papel de cantor, compositor, multi-instrumentista e produtor.
Aclamados no final dos anos 1980 e princípio da década seguinte, com diversos álbuns a alcançar grande exposição e popularidade, na segunda metade dos anos 90 sofrem algum distanciamento e rechaço por parte da imprensa que já tinha partido em novas direções musicais. Com a chegada do novo século, a banda acabou por ser, paulatinamente, reconhecida internacionalmente como uma das mais influentes do rock alternativo moderno.
Várias canções do The Cure atingiram o sucesso nas rádios e as posições cimeiras de canções mais vendidas, tais como “Just Like Heaven”, “Close To Me”, “Lovesong” ou “Friday I’m in Love”, recebendo imensas indicações e vários prêmios. O grupo tinha vendido, até 2004, mais de 30 milhões de cópias em todo o mundo, com 1.1 milhão de vendas certificadas somente no Reino Unido, elevando-o assim ao estatuto de uma das bandas alternativas de maior sucesso da história. Em Outubro de 2008 a revista britânica NME anunciou a atribuição do prêmio ‘Godlike Genius’ à banda, em forma de reconhecimento pela contribuição para a música alternativa e pela sua extraordinária carreira.
