Therion (anteriormente Blitzkrieg, Megatherion) é uma banda sueca de metal sinfônico fundada por Christofer Johnsson em 1987. Seu nome foi inspirado no álbum do Celtic Frost To Mega Therion. “To Mega Therion” é grego para “The Great Beast” e foi um título usado pelo ocultista Aleister Crowley.

Originalmente uma banda de death metal, o Therion ajustou seu estilo musical adicionando elementos orquestrais, incluindo coros, músicos clássicos e até uma orquestra completa em suas apresentações. Como resultado, eles são considerados pioneiros do gênero metal sinfônico.

Therion leva seus temas para as letras de diferentes mitologias e práticas, incluindo ocultismo, magia e tradições e escritos antigos.
